ARRIVING IN FLORIDA ON JUNE 30th!We heard about this little dog from one of our shelter contacts in Louisiana. She was told Steffi had been “found“ and they couldn't keep her, but she suspected she was really their dog. We named her Steffi because she is so pretty and feminine, but we think her previous life may have been pretty grim. It's quite possible that she may have had to compete for her food and fight off male dogs, and most likely she did not experience much, if any affection from humans. It took Steffi a while when she first arrived in her foster home in mid May to realize that none of the other dogs were going to hurt or bully her and that her food was just that… hers. She is a very quiet gal, whines every now and then when she wants out of the crate but that’s very seldom. Steffi will now occasionally play with one of the other dogs but doesn’t usually initiate it. She can still be a bit overwhelmed when first meeting new dogs, but if the introduction is slow and gradual she is more likely to do well. Her Louisiana foster mom also shared something pretty cute - evidently Steffi is a bit of a klepto dog. If she finds something on the ground -- dish towel, keys, toys, something dropped and not retrieved quickly enough -- she will either take it outside and bury it in her special place or take it into her crate. Steffi did test positive for heartworms but her treatment is scheduled the first week of July so she should be available for a sleepover sometime between the middle and the end of July.
